Super Mario features a single player controlling Mario, and a second player controls Luigi. The game consists of a number of side-scrolling levels, each of which contains a variety of adversaries, from wicked turtles known as Koopa Troopas to goomba-shaped Goombas. At the conclusion of the castle levels, battles against Bowser impersonators take place in several locations, including dungeons and above ground. After the faker is eliminated, a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom tells Mario or Luigi that the princess is at another castle. The defeat of the real Bowser and Princess Toadstool’s rescue mark the end of the game.
The game also has a few stages that take place underwater and with various foes. The game also includes extras and hidden regions. The majority of secret regions include more coins for Mario to find, but some have “warp pipes” that enable Mario go ahead to later worlds without having to finish the previous stages.
